tl;dr: Instinct raised a $250M Series B co-led by Index Ventures and Benchmark at a $2.5B valuation, announced august 26 2026. total raised: $350M. frontrun flagged founder Noah Shinn on july 3, 55 days before the news, when he had 74 followers. three tracked investors followed him before the Series A. 22 followed before the Series B. 215 have followed him as of today.
what is Instinct?
Instinct is a personal AI agent. there is no app to learn. you text it or call it, and it uses a phone and a computer the way a person does: email, calendar, messages, the browser.
in Noah's own words from the launch post: "The interface is simple: there are no new interfaces. You can text or call it." early users, he says, have "planned cross-country road trips, bought weekly groceries and concert tickets, and cancelled hundreds of dollars of subscriptions." one is planning a wedding with it.
I'm Noah, the founder of Instinct.
— Noah Shinn (@noahrshinn) August 26, 2026
Instinct is a personal agent that we've been building for the past few months. The interface is simple: there are no new interfaces. You can text or call it. It's trained to use a phone and a computer in the same way that humans do.
it is invite-only while the team brings up more compute. Instinct is operated by Spear Street Technology, based in san francisco, and was founded in 2025. Noah is 23 and was previously a research scientist at Sierra.
who led Instinct's $250M Series B?
Index Ventures and Benchmark co-led the round at a $2.5B post-money valuation, per TechCrunch and the Wall Street Journal.
the round came three weeks after a $75M Series A led by Kleiner Perkins at a $500M valuation in early august. the Series B priced the company at five times that. total raised is $350M in a company that is roughly one year old.
how early did frontrun flag Instinct's founder?
flagged july 3, announced august 26. 55 days.
on july 3 a tracked investor followed @noahrshinn. our follower snapshot from that day reads 74 followers. there was no product page, no press, and no announcement. the account was a name and a bio.
Noah has 6,211 followers today, the day after the round. that is an 8,296% increase from the flag date. the follow graph moved before the follower count did, which is the whole point of watching it.
we flagged the founder, not a company account, because Instinct did not have one we could find in july. the person is the earliest signal there is.
which investors followed before the round?
these are the first tracked follows, recorded the day they happened:
| date | tracked account | context |
|---|---|---|
| jul 3 | Tobi Coker | the flag. 74 followers |
| jul 4 | Aditya Naganath | day two |
| jul 8 | Lauren Reeder | third follow |
| aug 5 | Scott Belsky | the week of the $75M Series A |
| aug 18 | Siqi Chen, Arash Ferdowsi | eight days before the B |
| aug 22 | Sriram Krishnan, Jesse Middleton | four days before |
| aug 23 | Josh Elman, Tanay Jaipuria, Adam Goldberg | the weekend before |
| aug 26 | Brett Berson, Leigh Marie Braswell, and 16 others | announcement day |
3 tracked investors followed before the Series A. 22 followed before the Series B was public. 215 have followed as of august 27. the curve is the story: a trickle for five weeks, then a wave in the eight days before the round, then everyone.
neither the Index Ventures nor the Benchmark firm account followed him before the announcement. the partners who did are in the table.
what is X saying about Instinct?
the round set off a real argument. the takes, sorted by side.
the bulls
Sheel Mohnot calls it "OpenClaw for normal people" and is setting his dad up with it.
I've really been enjoying Instinct, a personal AI agent. The simplest description for it is: OpenClaw for normal people.
— Sheel Mohnot (@pitdesi) August 20, 2026
It feels like magic. And contrary to what some people have said, I don't think the appeal is limited to Silicon Valley types, we are setting my dad up with it
andrew chapello calls it the best consumer launch strategy since Uber: exclusivity, hype, mystery, a dash of drama.
Instinct has had the best consumer product launch strategy since Uber. This happened in 4 parts:
— andrew chapello (@chapello) August 26, 2026
1) Exclusivity: it is invite only
2) Hype: lots of folks writing on X (including by me)
3) Mystery: who is the team? Who are the founders? Have they already raised?
nikhil takes the other side of every "$2.5B is Clubhouse behavior" take: everyone wants the product Instinct is building towards.
agree with the attached post and I take the other side on all the "Instinct at $2.5b is clubhouse / bubble behavior" takes:
— nikhil (@uninsightful) August 27, 2026
1. we all obviously want the product that Instinct is building towards (magical, proactive agent that has full context on your life and constantly helps).
the bears
Vishal Talasani: consumers don't pay for AI, so the only path to a $100B outcome is monetizing user data.
My takeaway is that Instinct is going to sell user data
— Vishal Talasani (@shellvish) August 26, 2026
Instinct needs a $100B+ outcome to justify a $2.5B val
But, consumers don't pay for AI. ChatGPT has 1B users, and only makes ~$8b/yr from user subs
The only path to enough revenue is monetizing user data
Rob Hadick sees groupthink. it works "ok" today and is inferior for most tasks.
The particularly interesting thing about the Instinct conversation is just how emblematic it is of the groupthink endemic in tech and venture.
— Rob Hadick (@HadickM) August 27, 2026
Instinct is, clearly, a product most people would like to see work. It works.. ok.. right now.
the security tester
Alex Cohen made a fresh Gmail account and emailed his real inbox with instructions addressed to Instinct, to see how easily it could be phished. his conclusion: not yet safe to give an AI read/write access to your inbox.
For additional context, I don't think we're at the point where it's safe to give AI read/write access to your inbox.
— Alex Cohen (@anothercohen) August 22, 2026
I wanted to see how easily Instinct could be phished, so I created a brand new Gmail account and emailed my real personal account with instructions for Instinct
what are the security concerns?
TechCrunch collected them two days before the round:
- the terms of service grant Instinct a "perpetual and irrevocable" license to user materials for model training, and permit it to enter "agreements, commitments, or transactions" on the user's behalf.
- Peter Yang found it retained his Gmail records and initially could not delete them. Claire Vo found it kept summarizing her inbox after she disconnected Google.
- Katie Jacobs Stanton reported it "sent an email on my behalf without checking with me first."
the company told the Wall Street Journal it is "taking the security concerns raised seriously." none of it slowed the round.

why does a founder's follower count matter?
it does not, and that is the lesson. 74 followers is the number a scraper would use to skip Noah Shinn in july. the signal was not the count, it was who was in it: three tracked investors inside a week, on an account with no product attached.
a follower count tells you what already happened. a follow from a specific investor tells you what someone with money just decided. the second one is early. the first one is a press release.
